Bath Abbey | Bath, England

As a history major, I am fascinated by the churches in this country. I have been to my fair share of cathedrals, but never an abbey.
Leah and I went to Bath on possibly the coldest day in March. It was unfortunate timing, but despite our frozen feet, we did manage to fit in a little visit to Bath Abbey!

The original abbey dates back to the 7th century. Over the years it was rebuilt, left in ruin, and then restored in 1860. 


What are some other amazing churches I should put on my travel list??

    Have you been to St Mary Redcliffe? Elizabeth I called it the loveliest church in all of England!

    York and Durham have always been my favorites, that and local parish churches - a lot smaller but very beautiful in their history. If you're ever in North Yorkshire and fancy a walk to the medieval deserted village of Wharram Percy there is the church of St. Martin which while a ruin, is really beautiful.

    Beautiful beautiful pictures!! Those stained glass window panes are so intricate! I haven't been to many cathedrals, especially ones like THAT one, I don't there are any that grand where I live! Just GORGEOUS.

    1. Lord Mayor's Chapel - on your doorstep in Bristol.
    2. Lacock - Abbey, church, pubs, teashops.
    3. Tewkesbury Abbey.
    4. Gloucester Cathedral.
    5. Malmesbury.
    6. Cirencester

      "England's Thousand Best Churches" by Simon Jenkins is worth looking at. They've got it in the Bristol Central Library right now.

    I loved Bath Abbey and we had the sweetest lady show us around the abbey. I personally love 'my' Ely Cathedral :)
