Charming Fredericksburg, Texas

12 October 2015

Picture this :: A sleepy Texas town where people smile and wave hi to you as they sit on their porch in their handmade rocking chairs. You can find plenty of these towns across Texas, however Fredericksburg posses a unique charm. Recently I had the pleasure of spending the weekend in this amazingly beautiful city for a relaxing mother daughter weekend.

We surprisingly picked the perfect weekend to visit Fredericksburg without realizing. Not only was it the beginning of Texas Wine Month, it was also Fredericksburg's Oktoberfest! More on that later, but we had so many things to do, it was hard to keep up!

Fredericksburg was founded in 1846 during the emigration of Germans to Texas. Texas, having previously been its own country for ten years, had just been annexed into the United States. There was plenty of land and opportunity which was appealing to the Germans who were now looking for a place to settle.

Considered to be "deep in the heart of Texas", Fredericksburg is now famous for being home to Texas Wine Country. Vineyard after vineyard line the highways. Fredericksburg is an extremely popular destination not only in Texas, but nationwide as well.

Happy Monday!

An Afternoon in Wells | England

08 October 2015

Wells, one of the most beautiful and quaint cities in Southwest England is a short 45 minute bus ride away from Bristol. Seeing as it was a rather rainy September, EVERYONE was jumping on the chance to enjoy the sun on this particular Saturday afternoon. Our quick 45 minute bus ride turned into an hour and a half but we eventually reached our destination.

Wells has had city status status for almost a thousand years despite the fact its population is barely 10,000. Wells is considered the smallest "city" in all of England, outside the actual City of London. The city itself is easy to walk and is filled with medieval attractions such as Wells Cathedral and Bishops Palace. Easy enough to get to, Wells is a popular destination in Somerset. You may recognize it without realizing, Wells was the setting of the popular movie Hot Fuzz!

Since I had visited Wells multiple time previously we opted to roam the cathedral before sitting down on the green for an afternoon of reading. I even found myself dozing off underneath the English sun.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones where you don't plan anything at all. An afternoon of walking and reading was the perfect way to spend our Saturday!

Happy Thursday!

Meet Christianna | Expecto Adventures

05 October 2015

Happy Monday everyone!
I am super excited because today I'm introducing y'all to a relatively new girl in the travel blogging world! From Washington to South Carolina, Christianna loves documenting her adventures around the US as well as sharing traveling tips and advice. I am so happy I have been introduced to her blog and can't wait to follow along her future adventures through her musings on Expecto Adventures!

1 | Tell us about yourself!
I’m Christianna, and I just started the blog, Expecto Adventures, with the goal of inspiring weekend travels. I love green tea, sunsets, reading, adventures, dresses & language.

2 | You recently went on a cross-country road trip where you visited 11 states and drove almost 3,500 miles! What possessed you to take on such a daunting yet thrilling adventure?

I had to! My job relocated me from California to Georgia, and I chose to drive rather than fly. It was just me and everything I own on the open road for three weeks, which gave me a lot of time to reflect on where I’m going, both figuratively & literally.

3 | What were some highlights on your cross-country road trip?

Prior to my roadtrip, I’d never left the West Coast, so everything was new and exciting to me! I especially enjoyed spending my 22nd birthday in Las Vegas, experiencing the Grand Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, and all the kind strangers I met along the way.

4 | How do you go about planning your getaways? Are you a “go with the flow” type of person or do you prefer to have every detail mapped out?

A little bit of both, but I lean towards being pretty organized. I always have a general idea of my itinerary for the day, but I’ve learned that things happen out of your control, and some of my best adventures have come unexpectedly. You can read more about how I plan a trip here!

5 | What is the best piece of advice you would tell other travelers looking to explore America?

Just do it! America is an expensive place to travel, yes, but there are so many tips & hacks to not spending a fortune. Each of the 50 states is unique in its own way, and there are so many things to experience in this country. Don’t pass up the opportunity to explore the USA!
