The Last Town in Wales | Chepstow, Wales

21 September 2016

The thing I miss most about living in England is the ability to jump on a train and explore somewhere new. Don't get me wrong, I love having my car here in America. However, there is something about train travel that really opens new possibilities.

Chepstow has been on my list of places to visit ever since I read about it on Elle's blog. On my recent visit to the UK I made sure to make a day trip out of it. The last (or first depending on how you look at it) town in Wales, Chepstow is a sleepy city with a big history. As soon as you step foot onto the Chepstow train station platform, you are greeted with signs and paths leading you to exciting places. My first stop was the bridge between Wales and England.

Old Wye Bridge was built in 1816, however bridges have been standing in its place since the 13th century. A bridge easily accessible by foot, you can literally walk from Wales to England. That's right, you can literally walk from one country to another. Despite the gorgeous weather, there were only a few other tourists snapping away. In true fashion, I decided to show off how awkward of a human I am in front of a camera.

I think I'll stick to taking the photos instead of being in them.

There is a world of difference between Wales and England. Ask any Brit and they'll give you an extensive history of the differences between the two countries. Chepstow may be a stones throw away from the English border, but it has a lot to offer all on its own.

An Afternoon in Wells | England

08 October 2015

Wells, one of the most beautiful and quaint cities in Southwest England is a short 45 minute bus ride away from Bristol. Seeing as it was a rather rainy September, EVERYONE was jumping on the chance to enjoy the sun on this particular Saturday afternoon. Our quick 45 minute bus ride turned into an hour and a half but we eventually reached our destination.

Wells has had city status status for almost a thousand years despite the fact its population is barely 10,000. Wells is considered the smallest "city" in all of England, outside the actual City of London. The city itself is easy to walk and is filled with medieval attractions such as Wells Cathedral and Bishops Palace. Easy enough to get to, Wells is a popular destination in Somerset. You may recognize it without realizing, Wells was the setting of the popular movie Hot Fuzz!

Since I had visited Wells multiple time previously we opted to roam the cathedral before sitting down on the green for an afternoon of reading. I even found myself dozing off underneath the English sun.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones where you don't plan anything at all. An afternoon of walking and reading was the perfect way to spend our Saturday!

Happy Thursday!

Sandown | Isle of Wight

04 November 2014

Warning | This post is very picture heavy.

Now that I have established I took a lot of pictures on the Isle of Wight, let's get to my visit to Sandown with fellow Texan living in Bristol, Elle. Located on the east coast of the Isle of Wight, Sandown is home to a pier, a candy shop, and one hell of a pretty beach. Sandown was easy enough to get to (we bought an Isle of Wight day bus ticket), but extremely hard to get out of. We waited an hour for a bus only to be told it wasn't going the direction we wanted to go (even though the sign clearly said it did)! All in all, Sandown is worth a the visit to the beach, but plan ahead to use the train system and not the buses!

Happy Tuesday!
